Guarding The Purple Martin House

Purple martins have many natural enemies. They fall into the two classes of predator and competator. Typical predators are some owls, hawks, snakes, and raccoons. Typical competators are starlings and house sparrows. There are more enemies than that.

For more information about these enemies, turn to Enemies of the Purple Martin. This page will concentrate on means to guard or protect the house. The information below may appear to be favoring purple martin houses over gourds. Think again, it will apply just as well to gourds.
